How Global Travel Influences Interiors

A Global Playground

I love to travel and encounter different cultures and part of this is being able to experience the architecture and interiors of different countries.  Having recently returned from Sri Lanka (and India last year) I realised what a profound impact the colonial aspects of these countries were having on the way I looked at products.  I was looking at colour schemes differently and wanting to include more intricate patterns in homewares that I was sourcing.

The Impact of Adventures

So how does global travel influence our interiors? Here are five tangible impacts.

Eclectic Fusion:

One of the most captivating aspects of travel is the opportunity to immerse oneself in diverse cultures and design aesthetics. This often inspires us to blend elements from different corners of the world, resulting in eclectic and vibrant interiors. Picture Moroccan rugs juxtaposed with Scandinavian furniture or Japanese minimalism infused with the colours of India. This fusion of styles creates spaces that are rich in character and reflect the unique stories of our travels.

Cultural Artifacts and Souvenirs:

Every souvenir tells a story, capturing a moment in time from our travels. Whether it's a handcrafted mask from Bali or intricately woven textiles from Peru, these artifacts serve as tangible reminders of our adventures. Incorporating these treasures into our homes adds depth and personality to our interior spaces, sparking conversations and evoking cherished memories of faraway lands.

Global Colour Palettes:

The world is a canvas painted with an infinite array of colours, each hue inspired by the landscapes, traditions, and cultural symbolism of different regions. From the earthy tones of the African savanna to the vibrant hues of Indian spice markets, our travels introduce us to a kaleidoscope of colours waiting to be woven into the fabric of our homes. By embracing global colour palettes, we can infuse our interiors with the essence of distant lands, creating spaces that resonate with warmth and vitality.

Natural and Sustainable Materials:

As stewards of the earth, our travels often instill in us a deep appreciation for natural beauty and sustainable living. From the rugged charm of reclaimed wood to the timeless elegance of bamboo and rattan, we are drawn to materials that reflect our commitment to environmental consciousness. By incorporating these elements into our interior design, we not only create spaces that are visually appealing but also contribute to the preservation of our planet's precious resources.

Cultural Revival and Preservation:

In our quest for authentic experiences, we are rediscovering the beauty of traditional craftsmanship and design techniques from around the world. Whether it's handcrafted furniture, artisanal ceramics, or textiles woven using age-old methods, there is a renewed appreciation for the artistry and heritage embedded in these cultural treasures. By embracing these traditions, we not only honour the past but also ensure that these exquisite art forms continue to thrive in the modern world.

Your Memories Will Stay With You

From bustling market places to serene landscapes every jouney we undertake leaves an indelible mark on our design sensibilities shaping the way we envisage and inhabit our living spaces. BY infusing our interiors with the spirit of global adventure we can create spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also deeply meaningful. .
